THE BELVEDERE:
Parked just outside the old town, and before reaching the ancient part of the Borgo, you can stop in the Belvedere di Opi, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the most beautiful of the Abruzzo National Park: from Monte Marsicano (on the left) looks in succession to Monte Greco, Mount Amaro, Mount Petroso, Camosciara and all the surrounding valley.
THE MUNICIPAL PALACE:
Built at the end of the sixteenth century as the noble residence of the Fam. Rossi. It was later rebuilt in the 18th century. Today, the headquarters of the Opio Town Hall and the Pro Loco.
THE CHAMBER OF SAN GIOVANNI BATTISTA:
Located next to the Palazzo Comunale, it was built in the 17th century. as a private Chapel of the Barons of Opus, and entitled to St. John the Baptist. The style of the church is a refined baroque of Abruzzo.
THE CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA:
It is recognizable by the high bell tower, immediately visible as soon as you reach the center of Opi. Both the church and the bell tower have been damaged by violent earthquakes. The church dating to the 12th century was rebuilt in the 17th century, while the bell tower was restored in 1556.
THE CHAMOIS MUSEUM:
The museum is located in a typical house in the historic center of Opi. Visiting the museum, you will have the opportunity weather to know news and curiosities about the Camoscio d’Abruzzo, very agile inhabitant of the rocky areas of the mountains of the National Park, or to admire the structure of a typical historical house of a well-to-do family of the village. In addition, a section dedicated to kids will let them to recognize the different species of fauna in the Park. The course ends with, a visit to the faunal area will allow that the lucky ones to see the little pack that has recently been re-introduced. The entrance to the museum and the faunal area is free. Visiting hours: Open daily from 15 th June to 15 th September, the rest of the year on weekends and holidays on the following hours from 9.00 to 13.00 a.m. – 3,30-7,30 p.m..
THE MUSEUM OF SKI AND MOUNTAIN:
This small museum is dedicated to ski and mountain. You can admire most of the skiing equipment used since last century. In addition a department of photos of the ancient time enrich the documents. The museum is located at the town hall and can be used free of charge during the year. Visiting hours: open all year from 9.30 to 12.30 a.m.; From 3.30 to 6.30 pm.
THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM “SIGNOR OTTO”
The museum keeps some of the archaeological finds found in the Necropolis of Val Fondillo, in the territory of Opi. There are remains of kits, weapons and pottery. Particular importance is given to tomb number 8 (from which the name of the museum), entirely rebuilt in its bone structure and with the whole funeral equipment that includes dagger, long drawn sword with cruciate hilt (the only model found in the necropolis) , spear with iron tip and wooden shaft, as well two bronze sheets that seems sleeves.
Visiting Museum: Every day during high season and more affluence of tourist; on Saturdays and Sundays during the rest of the year. from 10.00 am to 1.00 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm. Entry is free.
MUSEUM “ONCE UPON A TIME …”
The museum is located in a private property managed by Pro Loco.
The history of the Opi community is told through the objects of everyday life, ancient tools that today help us to rediscover the ways and the customs and the feelings of a past era
Visiting hours: every day from 9.30 to 13.00 a.m. from 4.00 to 19.00 pm.
FOREST AND MAN’S MUSEUM
The museum is located in Val Fondillo, the most beautiful valley in the park. The visit to the museum is a journey to the discovery of the forest from prehistory to the Sannitian populations, from Romanization to the Middle Ages till today, through the beginning of the industrial era and the foundation of the Park. Visiting hours in August and in holidays from 12.00 to 6.00 a.m. In other periods of the year on request. Admission ticket € 2.
